LAWRENCE — Standing in the O'Connell South Common last week, Mayor Daniel Rivera reflected on playing hockey at the park while growing up nearby. He called the common a big part of his youth.
But with some parts of the park in need of a facelift, the city is set to seek community input on how to enhance the South Common as part of a process that would lead to an application for grant funding for improvements.
“We have a lot of people who live in walking distance to the park,” Rivera said. “To have it in the condition it is today, it is not suitable for the community.”
